Case Study: St. John's Northwestern Acadamies
Creating a one-of-a-kind Educational Aviation Lab
Background
Founded in 1884, St. John’s Northwestern Academies has guided young people from all over the world toward a life of service and achievement, structuring our approach around four pillars: academic excellence; enriching spiritual and character development; outstanding athletic programs; and premier leader development training in a secure, nurturing and inclusive environment.
The Challenge
SJNA is an educational institution driven by the principle of academic excellence. To distinguish their program from others, SJNA must push the boundaries of conventional curriculum to providing unique, enriching experiences. The traditional mold of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education needed to be re-shaped; programs and opportunities not found elsewhere need to be provided.
The SSR Solution
St. John’s Northwestern Academies is expanding their technology-focused educational programming. One specialty program being expanded and offered to students is Aviation Science. As the only high school program of its kind in the state of Wisconsin, coursework includes Aeronautical Engineering, Commercial Piloting, Airport Management, and Aerospace Medicine.
To enhance this program and prepare students for pilot certification, SJNA invested in developing an Aviation Lab. SSR worked with SJNA technical and program leadership to review current and future requirements and expectations of the course, which led to the implementation of several aviation simulation bays within the classroom. Students now have the ability to log hours of simulated flight on robust computing hardware.
SSR’s partnership with St. John’s Northwestern Academies provided a one-of-a-kind experience for our students. Their knowledge of network infrastructure and educational technology really helped bring this all together.
John Vosnos, Chief Information Officer, St. John’s Northwestern Academies
As a result of this project, our client is now able to offer students a unique learning environment with simulated flights. The upgraded lab serves as a differentiator, setting St. John’s Northwestern Academies apart from other educational institutions.
